Competent Crew This course is aimed at newcomers to the sport of yacht sailing and is a fantastic way to learn the basics which make you a useful member of crew. No previous experience is required and it is really fun week where you will discover hidden talents. Day Skipper A Day Skipper course is aimed at people with some sailing experience in yachts who now want to progress onto running the yacht. It is split into two parts, theory and practical. We concentrate on the practical courses but will give you details of where to attend a theory course. The practical course puts your theory work into real life situations and by the end of the week you should be safe to skipper a small/ medium size yacht in familiar coastal waters and good weather conditions. You will also be able to apply for an International Certificate of Competence which is required by many charter companies and when sailing overseas. Coastal Skipper A Coastal Skipper course is the last practical course with a formal syllabus. Before taking this course you should have completed the Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster theory examinations and again we can give you details of where these courses are held. The practical course covers more complex navigation, pilotage, manouvering and yacht management than the Day Skipper and aims to give you the competence to handle longer coastal and simple offshore passages. It is also a great stepping stone as you build the mileage needed for the yachtmaster examination. Yachtmaster Offshore - refresher This is not a structured course but a chance to hone skills and iron out any bad habits before the practical examination. The course is over a 5 day period with the first 4 days concentrating on refresher work and the examination occuring on the final day.
